Writer: Maharlika LobatonMaharlika Lobaton

This beer-based cocktail is perfect for hot weather. Minus the use of sugar to taste, you can enjoy this spicy and creamy goodness in a beer with richberry. Finish your glass without the guilt.

Ingredients:

Vegetable Juice:

  • 2 pints sweet cherry tomatoes

  • ¼ cup chopped celery

  • ¼ cup chopped red bell pepper

  • salt and ground black pepper to taste

Michelada:

  • ½ teaspoon flake sea salt

  • 1 pinch freshly ground black pepper

  • 1 pinch dried red chile pepper

  • 1 lime, halved

  • ice cubes

  • ½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

  • ½ teaspoon hot pepper sauce

  • ⅛ teaspoon soy sauce

  • 1/4 cup homemade vegetable juice

  • ½ (12 fluid ounce) bottle ice-cold Mexican lager

Directions:

  • Step 1 Place cherry tomatoes, celery, and red bell pepper into a blender. Pulse a few times to get the mixture moving. Blend on high until mixture has liquefied, a few more seconds. Place strainer over a bowl and strain mixture to remove seeds and skins. Push the mixture through the strainer with a spatula to extract the liquid. Season with salt and pepper.

  • Step 2 Sprinkle flake salt, black pepper, and chili pepper on a small plate. Rub the rim of a glass with a cut surface of a lime. Invert glass and dip rim into the salt mixture.

  • Step 3 Fill the glass with ice and add Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, and soy sauce. Pour in the vegetable juice and juice of 1/2 lime. Fill the glass 3/4 of the way with an ice-cold beer. Stir. Top off with more beer. Garnish with a lime slice.

Mocktail (non-alcoholic): If you wish to have a delicious non-alcoholic version, please feel free to take the alcohol out and follow the same procedure.

Consume Miracle Berry: Just before digging in, chew 1 or more freeze-dried miracle berry (this can also be done during the preparation of ingredients). Ensure to remove pits to avoid a bitter taste.

Fact: The active ingredient miraculin from miracle berry will turn sour foods such as lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, non-fat yoghurt and other citrus food to taste sweet without adding sugar. We recommend two halves or 2 servings for maximum effectiveness. Make sure to follow instructions from the back of the packaging.

Warning: Alcohols are for over 21 years of age and above. Drink responsibly, do not drink and drive.
