The mojito is already practically a perfect drink in every way, so what could possibly make it better? A little seasonal fruit, like strawberries! When they reach their peak at the beginning of summer, strawberries are an excellent accompaniment to a mojito. Regardless of the ripeness of strawberry, this fruit bears a fruity and mildly sour taste, which would surely give the best flavour in this recipe when paired with richberry.
INGREDIENTS
· 2 to 4 strawberries, hulled and sliced (4 if small berries, 3 if medium, 2 if truly massive)
· 8 mint leaves
· 3/4 ounce fresh-squeezed lime juice
· 2 ounces white rum
· 1 ounce sparkling water
· Crushed ice
· 1/2 ounce simple syrup
METHOD
Muddle the strawberries: Place the strawberries and mint in the bottom of a glass, and muddle until the strawberries are smushed and juicy. If you don’t have a muddler, crumple the mint with your hands just a bit before dropping it into the glass, then smash with the back of a spoon to release the flavour.
Add the remaining ingredients: Add crushed ice on top of the strawberries and mint, then pour in the lime juice and rum.
Stir: Use a bar spoon or teaspoon to stir the drink. Don't stir too vigorously; otherwise, you'll bring the mint to the surface!
Top with sparkling water: Fill the remainder of the glass with more crushed ice, then top with sparkling water.
Consume Miracle Berry: Just before drinking, chew 1 or more freeze-dried miracle berry (this can also be done during the preparation of ingredients). Ensure to remove pits to avoid the bitter taste.
Fact: The active ingredient miraculin from miracle berry will turn sour foods such as lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, non-fat yoghurt and other citrus food to taste sweet without adding sugar. We recommend two halves or 2 servings for maximum effectiveness. Make sure to follow instructions from the back of the packaging.
Note: Sometimes you may need to add at least 5-7% of the total quantity of sugar required, this is due to the chemistry of the food, however, you may skip this as you wish. The goal is to totally reduce sugar and yet experience the same taste.
